In today's scenario where multiple platforms are running across, What is the role of J2EE and why one should opt for it?

Java was one of the first independent programming language and it was actually a breakthrough in the ways and means applications were created. Earlier people had to re-write the code four to five times to support the applications in different platforms, but Java removed all that. Same thing goes for to the enterprise platform edition also.

J2EE is the most comfortable and preferred platform, not only by developers but also by architects as well as the business people.

Is J2EE the most preferred language just because it is open source?

Java was made open source in 2007 and has created a great impact. Even before Java went open source, there were 6 million Java developers worldwide, by far that is the large number for any programming language.

Making Java open source has further propelled in to the next level of adoption making it a preferred platform and environment for creating applications.

How do you find adoption of Java within the Indian developer community?

I have been attending events and conferences, and have noticed Java as the main theme or part of it. You can see Java taking a larger pie than its counterparts. This itself is indicative of Indian crowd tending to put much more efforts into adopting and absorbing Java technologies.

Another part is, certification. Most frequently taken certifications by developers are the SUN certification of Java. For example SPJP, SCWCD, SCBCD, SCEA, all these sun certification are the most preferred certifications.

Indian developers love sun certifications and prefer Java and J2EE.

How do you think certifications help developers for career growth?

Certifications are very valuable way of measuring some one's value.

Some think certifications does not help as they feel anybody can mug and get good scores. They feel it as no brain game.

However, the ways and means for scope of exam has changed to make it more challenging.  For example, SUN is thinking of reviving the SUN certified Java programming certification in a different method by introducing challenging problem solving and analyzing methods using simulators.

These types of certifications would be valuable not only to students but also to others.
