CIOL India saw 200pc y-on-y growth in mobile development courses in last two years

Overtaking the U.S, India currently has 220 million active devices. The growing adoption and usage rate of smartphones are, in turn, promoting a thriving interest in mobile development courses in 2016, says Google India.

The company revealed that the search queries for mobile development courses from India saw 200 percent year-on-year growth in the last two years.

In comparison with the U.S, where 60 percent of the learners are working professionals between the age group 25-44, over 65 percent of mobile developer learners in India includes college students and fresh graduates.

"We have seen tremendous response across mobile developer courses from India, with 16,500 students enrolling every month, taking up Android development, mobile Web development and learning new cloud-based technology courses," said Peter Lubbers, Head, Google Developer Training.

Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Maharashtra led the track with a bulk of Search queries for mobile developer courses.

Uttar Pradesh saw rising 70 percent year-on-year growth in courses for mobile development, while Bihar's search query increased by 158 percent year-on-year.

"While India leads the world in terms of education-related queries, demand for vocational training courses has been steadily rising, comprising 40 percent of the total search volume growing at a healthy rate of 50 percent year-on-year," Google India said.

Training partners like Simplilearn, Udacity, Edureka, Koenig, Manipal Global and UpGrad are the big players offering mobile development courses in India. Krishna Kumar, CEO of Simplilearn said, “With new age internet companies and startups creating exciting job opportunities for skilled mobile developers in India, we have witnessed a 3x increase in the number of individuals taking up certification training programs in the last 3 months."

In 2017, over 40 private and state technical universities are expected to offer the "Android Fundamental" course as part of standard curriculum.

Creating only 6 percent of overall IT-related courses demand, the search interest in mobile development courses is also expected to grow rapidly.
