What is e-sign?

e-sign is an online electronic signature service which can facilitate an Aadhaar holder to digitally sign a document within seconds. Instead of issuing hardware cryptographic tokens, e-sign is designed to apply Digital Signatures using authentication of the signer through Aadhaar e-KYC service. e-sign can revolutionise the way business and governance is conducted in the country and pave the way for a digital transformation into a paperless environment.

For creating electronic signatures, the signer is required to obtain a Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) from a Certifying Authority (CA) licensed by the Controller of Certifying Authorities (CCA) under the Information Technology (IT) Act, 2000.
