India bringing e-district project to 40 districts

NEW DELHI, INDIA: Government of India is implementing a pilot e-district mission mode project (MMP) in 40 districts across 15 states with the objective to enable electronic delivery of high volume services not covered by any other MMP.

Pilot districts are identified on the basis of socio economic and demographic profile of districts and states. Districts of Kadapa and Khamam in Andhra Pradesh will be covered in proposed national rollout of e-district project, said Sachin Pilot, Minister of State for Communications & Information Technology, in Rajya Sabha today.

In another statement, Gurudas Kamat, Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology said Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and Mahanagar Nigam Limited (MTNL) are to submit all their new tariff plans and changes in the tariff to TRAI as per the reporting requirement.

He also said that the details of tariff plans were declared and posted on websites by both BSNL and MTNL as per the TRAI regulations in this regard.

Regarding the intra service areas merger of Cellular Mobile Telephone Service (CMTS) and Unified Access Services (UAS) Licences, Kamat said that any permission for such merger should be given only after completion of 3 years from the effective date of the licences.

So far, Department of Telecom (DoT) has not given any go ahead for the merger of the companies which do not meet these licensing provisions.
