Zing is an open sourced Social Networking Site (SNS) built in Java. It is compatible to 0.8 OpenSocial specifications.  Zing uses Shindig as its OpenSocial container. This will be beneficial to those who need ready-made social networking sites for creating communities, dating, educational groups etc.

Zing provides a very good basic SNS on which one can build one’s own social networking website. It is licensed under Apache License 2.0 and is also a very neat reference implementation for the Shindig framework in Java. Implementation of some important features like OAuth, Caja (safe javascript for gadgets) etc. makes Zing extra special. OpenSocial gadgets can be very well hosted over Zing.

Rachana Salgia, V.P. - Engineering, Research & Development says on the occasion, “This was only possible because we have some of the country’s best engineers in Impetus who are dedicatedly working towards accelerating the development of OpenSocial. We believe we can now address the needs of the global social networking community with Zing, simple yet very robust and extensible application.”

Unlimited possibilities can be provided by these social networking sites. Their role has evolved as a medium where old friends meet, new relationships are created, small businesses can be transacted and they also offer a practical and effective platform for advertising. Today, online businesses consider these sites as the best resources of new ideas as well as potential buyers.
