IISc wants discreet security

BANGALORE: The director of Indian Institute of Science Prof P Balaram today favoured security, which would be unobtrusive, modern and discreet using technology in the campus.

He said he did not want the institute to be turned into a high-security zone despite the terrorist attack, saying the ambience would be lost "if it was made an armed fortress."

"By very definition, the ambience of the university will be lost if you convert it into an armed fortress", he told reporters here today.

He also said other problems such as access and freedom would come along with high security.

A retired professor was killed in a terrorist attack on Wednesday.
