PARIS, FRANCE: The Council for Electronic Design Automation (CEDA), of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), has announced it has set up a Design Technology Committee in order to explore and analyze future requirements of the system and semiconductor communities in the EDA industry.

In a statement, the Council for Electronic Design Automation said the purpose of the Design Technology Committee includes identifying emerging design challenges as well as capability gaps of common interest.

These will be the primary focus, but the purpose will also include the models and the interoperability of EDA tools, the standards used in EDA models to communicate with each other, as also the best practices and business models to access design tools and design flows.

The Design Technology Committee, according to CEDA, will coordinate closely with existing standards-development organizations – including Accellera, the Silicon Integration Initiative (Si2), and the IEEE DA Standards Committee.

Leon Stok, IBM’s vice-president of EDA and chairman of the Design Technology Committee, said the committee consists of leaders exclusively from the semiconductor and systems firms that use EDA tools.

Also, the Design Technology Committee will cooperate with other groups inside and outside the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers on future EDA standards and other initiatives aimed at boosting the availability of interoperable tools to meet the requirements of the industry.

In a statement, the Council for Electronic Design Automation said it “actively solicits” nominations for additional members.

The objectives of IEEE/CEDA consist of promoting design automation of electronic circuits and systems, at all levels, through publications, volunteer activities, and conferences/workshops.
