IEE to open offices in India

BANGALORE: India's R&D and software engineering capabilities which have achieved world wide recognition, is now attracting the attention of global professional engineering bodies.

The Institution of Electrical Engineers or IEE, a European professional society, today announced that it would set up offices in Bangalore and New Delhi next year.

IEE has decided to join forces with the Institution of Incorporated Engineers to form the Institution for Engineering and Technology (IET). “This change is being made to enable interdisciplinary participation in the industry,” said Sitharaman, chairman, IEE, Bangalore branch.

The IET would be set up in India by March 2006. IEE includes members from various sectors like communications engineering, transport, electronic systems and software, ICT, manufacturing, power and management. IEE plans to conduct at least four international conferences in India in 2006.

The society also plans to bring in the Faraday lecture event for teenagers to India in 2007. “India is today an indispensable player in the international arena of science, engineering and technology. IEE would like to involve the greatest minds of this country in its activities and in the advancement of sciences,” said Paul Jackson, director, professional operations, IEE.
