IDBI launches mobile banking services in Chennai

CHENNAI: Right on the toes of the launch of mobile banking facilities in

Bangalore, Calcutta, Delhi, Hyderabad and Indore, IDBI Bank today launched

MoneyMobile, its Short Messaging Service (SMS) and Wireless Application Protocol

(WAP) enabled mobile banking services in Chennai.

A customer with a WAP enabled cellular phone, on registration with IDBI Bank,

can avail of a list of facilities. One can do a balance enquiry, get information

about the last 3-5 transactions as well as the products and interest rates the

bank offers, the status of paid cheques, forward a request for cheque books,

statements etc. The customer needs to dial up 98203 46920 or 98210 43718 and put

in their requests. Right now, only Skycell provides WAP enabled banking services

in Chennai.

"WAP enabled banking services have opened yet another channel of

communication for our customers. It is an improvement on our telebanking

facility on the landline, and the service is free. The cost of the WAP

initiative is insignificant when we think about the value added services that we

can provide our customers," said the Head of Net initiatives and

E-commerce, IDBI, J Venkataramanan.

A customer from anywhere in India can access the WAP facility offered by IDBI

at local call charges. Moreover, all mobile service providers offer the Short

Messaging Service of IDBI.

Hexaware has provided the technology for the endeavor. The WAP transactions

at IDBI are WTLS standard compliant, which means that the transactions conform

to the highest level of security standards available internationally.
