The new IBM cloud platform will be delivered through the company's Asia Pacific Cloud Computing Data Centre launched in Singapore recently.

The new IBM SmartCloud Enterprise, which provides for both Linux and Windows operating systems, is based on an infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) delivery model that offers rapid access to multi-tenant solutions scaled and priced based on usage.

IBM claims that by expanding on IBM’s existing Development and Test Cloud, the IBM SmartCloud Enterprise reduces application development tasks from days to minutes via automation and rapid provisioning, enabling business to achieve upwards of 30 per cent cost savings versus traditional application environments.

“Our belief is cloud is a transformational element in IT — it’s so compelling that you can’t ignore it. Cloud computing allows companies to rethink IT and reinvent the way they do business. Our goal is to make CIOs feel comfortable harnessing these capabilities. The new IBM SmartCloud Enterprise aims to do just that by offering businesses the cost savings and scalability of a shared cloud environment with the enterprise class security and capabilities that our clients expect from IBM,” said Akash Saxena, VP, Offerings Management & Development, Global Technology Services, IBM, India/South Asia.
