"SMEs are growth engines of the Indian economy, and we are committed to providing them with access to the right information, tools and technologies that helps them succeed," said Chetan Naik, vice-president, global mid-market business, IBM India/South Asia.

The move is as part of the company’s regional expansion strategy. Last year, IBM had announced a plan to extend its presence to 14 cities outside the metros. So far it has launched operations in Bhopal, Chandigarh, Coimbatore, Goa, Jaipur, Jamshedpur, Lucknow, Nagpur, and Vizag.

IBM will expand operations to four additional cities including Surat, Bhubaneswar, Madurai and Ludhiana in the coming months.

IBM’s recently announced IBM Express Advantage initiative provides SMEs with a unified end-to-end approach to help them innovate and expand.

In India IBM has also introduced the SME Toolkit, a free program that enables entrepreneurs and small businesses to learn how to implement sustainable business management practices needed for growth in areas such as finance, accounting, international business, marketing, human resources or legal.
