IBM launches ThinkCenter PC series

NEW DELHI: IBM India Ltd. has launched its ThinkCenter series of desktop PCs, positioned as PCs that would reduce TCO and ROI. The company has launched three PCs in the series - S50, M50 and A50p, the most striking feature in which is the 256 kbps security chip embedded in the desktop.



The new ThinkCenter series offer features like Rapid Restore which helps protect data and reduce downtime by creating mirror image of the hard disk drive and restoring it quickly before the software becomes corrupt. With this launch, all IBM's offerings have come under an umbrella brand, which is 'Think'. IBM's Think family now includes notebooks, Think Pad; desktops, ThinkCenter; visuals ThinkVision; and options and services Think Accessories and Services.







ThinkCenter S50 is positioned as a space-saving PC manifested in an extremely small form factor. M50 is positioned as providing stability and manageability for enterprises and A50p is multimedia centric machine offering a wide range of optical drives and video graphics adapter with upto 128 MB DDR memory. The series comes equipped with Intel P4, 856 chipset. The PCs would be priced below the Rs 50,000 price point although the company is yet to work out the pricing details.





Elaborating on the new PC launch, IBM India PC division VP Alok Ohrie said, 'Hardware and software costs account for only 20 percent of the cost of the PC. As much as 80 percent of the cost of the PC comes from managed and unmanaged costs which is where the new ThinkCenter series bring in value proposition.' Ohrie claimed that ThinkCenter's new features would enable cost reduction to the tune of 10 percent-15 percent.
