IBM #1 in India non-x86 Unix server market

BANGALORE, INDIA: Owing to strong uptake for Power7 servers, IBM emerged the leading vendor in the India non x86 Unix server market in revenue terms in the first quarter (Q1) of 2011. This is according to IDC’s Asia/Pacific Quarterly Enterprise Server Tracker, Q1 2011, May 2011.

As per the tracker, IBM captured 42.1 per cent revenue market share in the India non-x86 Unix server market in Q1 2011, which is 11.7 points lead over its nearest competitor.

In addition, IBM’s non x86 UNIX server factory revenues grew 6.5 per cent year-on-year in Q1 2011 over Q1 2010), while revenues of all other vendors in the said segment declined during the same period.

IBM’s revenue growth in the non-x86 Unix server segment in India was driven by strong performance in the financial services, communication and manufacturing verticals.  

In the overall server market, IBM captured 28.1 per cent revenue market share of the overall server market in India in Q1 2011, with year-on-year growth of six per cent. The overall server market in India during the same period grew by 9.3 per cent in revenue terms.

In terms of x86 server market, IBM had a 22.4 per cent revenue share of the x86 server market in Q1 2011. The overall x86 server market grew 24.5 per cent year-on-year in Q1 2011 in revenue terms.

In terms of x86 blade server market, with a 29.9 per cent year-on-year growth in the x86 blade server market, IBM captured 33 per cent revenue market share in Q1 011. The overall x86 blade server market 37.4 per cent revenue terms in Q1 2011.
