NEW DELHI, INDIA: The audience was completely captivated by the genius of the three entrepreneurs at the panel of this session. Named ‘Ideas that Impact’, the session at TiE Entrepreneurial Summit 2010 showed how entrepreneurs should think out of the box.

Mansukhbhai Prajapati, India Inventor, Mitticool

Mansukhbhai, a craftsman from Gujarat has become one of the most well-known names in the entrepreneurial ecosystem today. With the success of his invention of the clay refrigerator — Mitticool, Mansukhbhai has come up with a variety of earthen products which can be used by the poor people. He displayed a variety of his product at the event — a non-stick pan, a water filter, pressure cooker.

“I had this zeal in me to do something different. I wanted to help all the poor people. My aim is to build an affordable house by 2012 for them as well, which would not require electricity and would remain as cool as an air-conditioned house,” says Mansukh, a recipient of the Rashtrapati's award for his achievement.

Another player in the solar power space, Amit Chugh, has come up with a water-proof and shock-proof LED lamp. From social entrepreneurship Amit shifted gears to working for profit through Cosmos Ignite.

“Our first product was a failure. That way we got to understand what the customers really want. They want energy. They want to use that energy in their own way,” says Amit.

The lamp weighs 1.5 kilos. It is hollow and portable. It also comes with a set of plug-ins to charge mobile phones and has a small solar panel which can give charge for 8 hours. The product is now sold in various parts of India and Africa.

And we thought board games were going extinct. Barely a year old, this company decided to design board games in various languages.

“Everybody loved our idea when we showed them. But nobody was buying it,” says Rajat.

They have started with Aksharit which is a crossword puzzle in the Hindi language and it became a hit in 1000 schools where orders were placed for 6000 boardgames. The company is now partnering with Intel and Nokia N8 to promote its product.
