Huawei tops Q1 09 service provider IP router mkt

BANGALORE, INDIA: Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd., a provider in telecommunication network solutions for operators around the world, today announced that it has secured the number one spot for new market share won globally in the service provider IP router segment in the first quarter of 2009.

According to the latest report by telecommunications market research firm, Infonetics Research, the rapid momentum that Huawei has gained among customers worldwide generated a 50 per cent increase in its market share over the previous quarter, reaching 14.3 per cent of the global service provider IP router market, said a press release.

In addition, Infonetics Research reported that Huawei’s market share for IP routers has grown every year since 2006, reaching its highest to date in Q109.

Huawei also continued to be the leader in the router market in Asia Pacific, with 27.7 per cent of the market share. It is ranked second in the IP routers segment, in terms of cumulative market share in Europe, Latin America and Asia Pacific.

Zha Jun, president of Router and Network Security, Huawei Network, said, "Huawei’s continued leadership in the router market is built upon our long-term commitment in partnering with operators to drive the development of this industry segment.”

He added that as operators look for innovative technologies to meet the increasing demand for new services, Huawei’s cutting-edge and cost-effective solutions would enable them to provide quality services to end-users and yield a high return on their investment.

Huawei’s Quidway router portfolio is designed to meet a variety of operator network needs, and has been deployed in backbone networks in over 100 countries and regions, including Germany, Britain, Spain, Russia, Brazil, Malaysia, New Zealand, and China, the release added.
