BANGALORE: Huawei Technologies has announced that MTN (Mobile
TelephoneNetworks) International, one of the largest cross-national mobile
operators in southern Africa has selected it’s GSM Base Station Sub-System
(BSS) to support its GSM expansion project for MTN Uganda.
As part of the agreement, Huawei will supply a Base Station Controller, 50
Base Transceiver Stations, and 235 TRXs (Transceiver) for GSM infrastructure
upgrades for MTN Uganda. Its completion will enable MTN's network to seamlessly
cover Uganda and will vastly boost the subscriber capacity.
"This association with MTN, a leading operator in the mobile segment, is
in line with our global strategy of working with leading players in the telecom
segment", said Huawei Technologies, India COO, Lu Ke. "Huawei's world-

cost-effectively."
Huawei's GSM BSC has been designed to support smooth migration from GSM to
GPRS and its BTS (Base Transceiver Station) allows a cost effective migration
path towards the new data dimension.
