Huawei & Airtel unveil India's first 4G smartphone

NEW DELHI, INDIA: One of the leading device and telecom equipment makers Huawei today at innovation Qualcomm India 2012, unveiled a 4G/LTE smartphone along with Bharti Airtel.

Powered with Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor, Huawei Ascend P1 LTE, is India's first 4G device. Bharti airtel has already rolled out its LTE network in a couple of circles and said that the customer response so far is wonderful.

Qualcomm said that they are working with vendors like Dell and Samsung and new devices are expected around its Snapdragon S4 processor platform. The mobile processor major also said that it will help enable vendors to launch sub 5K smartphones.

Paul E Jacobs, chairman and CEO at Qualcomm said that they see huge opportunity for snapdragon all-in-one mobile processor. ''The prices are coming down rapidly. Our QRD platform is enabling entry-level smartphones,'' Jacobs said.

Commenting on the occasion, Sanjay Kapoor, CEO - India & South Asia, Bharti Airtel said, "We are excited to announce the launch of India's first 4G LTE TDD multi-mode mobile device along with Qualcomm and Huawei, and are delighted to take the lead in setting technology standards for 4G devices in India. We are confident that others will follow the suit and participate in the effort towards establishing the 4G devices ecosystem in India"

Some of the features of the smartphone

The smartphone is powered by QTI's Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor, 1.5 GHz dual core CPUs, built-in Adreno 225 GPU, Android Ice Cream Sandwich operating system, 1GB RAM, 4GB ROM , 4.3-inch Super AMOLED HD display, Corning Gorilla Glass, and 8-megapixel camera with dual LED flash.

The smartphone will be available for consumers in Bangalore and Kolkata by the end of this month.
