HP software helps enterprises get more out of data centers

BANGALORE: HP has beefed up its Virtual Server Environment (VSE) for HP servers with features that will now enable enterprises simplify, optimize and lower costs of their IT infrastructure.

The new VSE product suite for HP Integrity and HP 9000 servers optimize server resource utilization in real time according to business priorities. The underlying technology in this offering is virtualization that allows IT managers to pool and share resources by providing virtual servers that can optimize resource utilization, and maintain service levels. The new software also offers flexible cost options with various pricing models including per-per-use utility pricing.

VSE works by creating virtual servers that automatically grow and shrink based on the service level objectives (SLOs) for each application they host, delivering additional resources to your most critical applications during peak times.

The software provides intelligent control of an enterprise’s virtualized environment through integrated planning, management, and automation. This includes the first automated, goal-based Global Workload Manager policy engine available for UNIX doubling server utilization and reducing capital and operating costs.

Part of the new offerings includes HP Instant Capacity solutions that provide flexibility based on performance requirements over time. Analysts are optimistic about the direction HP is taking to further its virtualization road map. Jonathan Eunice, a senior analyst with Illuminata, stated the following about the HP VSE: “HP was the original thought leader in utility computing. Since those early days, HP has regularly improved and broadened its portfolio, now known as the Virtual Server Environment (VSE). The result is not just a hopeful strategy or pretty vision statement, but a rich, polished, often-deployed product suite. Practical, well-integrated virtualization is a major reason that HP Integrity servers are such strong production computing platforms.”
