HP to buy software company for $11.7 bn bn

WASHINGTON, USA: Personal computer giant Hewlett-Packard (HP) is in talks to buy British software company Autonomy for about $11.7 billion, a media report said.

HP - based in Palo Alto, California - is expected to announce the plans soon, Xinhua reported.

Currently listed on the London Stock Exchange, Autonomy is Britain's second-largest software maker and has joint headquarters in Cambridge and San Francisco.

Microsoft and Oracle were also reportedly bidding on Autonomy.
