PALO ALTO, Calif.: Hewlett-Packard Co. introduced on Wednesday a printer and
copier which can print digital photos directly from a camera's memory card.
The roughly $400 all-in-one device, which combines, printer, scanner and fax
machine, has a slot that takes the three most commonly used types of memory
cards - CompactFlash, SmartMedia and Sony Memory Stick - and turns out a proof
sheet of miniature pictures.
The user chooses which photos to print, and in what size, by marking the
proof sheet. The machine, the HP PSC 950, scans and reads the sheet before
printing out the desired pictures.
The all-in-one device is scheduled for shipment to US stores this month, HP
said.
HP is developing printers that plug into the Internet directly without the
need for personal computers, on the expectation that demand for "hard
copies" of documents will grow further.
