developer of the free Linux operating system, announced on Tuesday a broader
alliance.
The partners said in a statement that they aimed to be first to market with
Linux servers running on a soon-to-be-released high-end Intel Corp. microchip,
Itanium-2, on which HP has cooperated.
All HP ProLiant servers, a line it inherited from Compaq Computer Corp. in
the companies' May merger, blade servers, and servers and workstations running
on Itanium 2-based chips will be available with Red Hat Linux software, they
said in a statement.
