NEW DELHI: HP has consolidated its market position with the launch of rp7410
server in the mid-range Unix server market. The server is configured to an 8 way
performance PA-8700 processors at 650 or 750 MHz with an always on Internet
infrastructure. rp7410 supports upto 8 processors with 8 virtual partitions and
2 to 4 power cords.
rp7410 uses the same high-end cell design that HP used with rp8400 that
supports dynamic partitioning and maximizes usage. It is designed to power
e-services, advanced ERP, CRM and e-commerce and intelligence among others. The
company was first to introduce 64 bit computing with their K-class series of
servers, is today brining rp7410 toward providing a unified structure while
removing complexities in typical multiple operating environments. It runs on
HP-UX11i the enterprise operating system.
The rp7410 unlike the rp8400 has a partition for both software and hardware
components and a hot-spare CPU with an instant capacity on demand. The rp7410 is
designed for applications such as OLTP, Java Applets, technical and a host of
workload environments. They are in-box upgrades to future generations of PA-RISC
and Itanium processors.
"The rp7410 is designed to deliver lower costs and lower resource usage.
These midrange servers will allow businesses to evolve their data center or IT
environment intelligently. And in the Unix market we are an undisputed
leader" said John Miller, Director (Server Mktg.), HP.
The rp7410 bolsters the mid-range market lead of HP. In the mid-range UNIX
revenue position HP has a market share of 33.7per cent. IDC believes that mid
range servers are expected to be the focal point in multi-tier computing
environments.
It is suited for a range of workloads including e-services and e-commerce.
The strategy is towards a unified structure for end-to-end solutions for
enterprises with platforms of choice with HP-UX, windows and Linux.
The price of the server starts from Rs 46 lakh.
