These solutions will enable service providers to efficiently roll out next generation services like messaging, portal and voice-enabled interactive services without losing out on the valuable time-to-market advantage. As competition increases amongst telecom service providers, the focus has shifted towards differentiated value-added services, which can be customized according to customer requirements. Agility in service delivery platforms has never become so critical as telcos grapple with their old complex networks, which are analog and on proprietary platforms.

Speaking at the HP, OpenCall Insight Days held at Macau, China, during 11-13 February 2004, Steve Au Yeung, VP, Software Global Business Unit, HP APAC said, "Network and service providers need adaptive networks that will give them the agility to create, launch and manage hundreds of mobile services targeted at their subscribers. HP is advancing the adaptive infrastructure for operators with the latest developments on OpenCall and through value add and customization by our partner community."

Steven Dietch, Worldwide HP OpenCall Marketing Director, OCBU, urged application developers to work in partnership with HP to build killer applications on its platform. He said that HP has been working with network equipment vendors to break proprietary platforms but it was equally important for HP to work with application developers to develop applications on the platform. "This is what the entire HP OpenCall eco-system is about."

Some of the partners who showcased their applications on the HP platform included Switzerland based BMD Wireless, that specializes in development of innovative core network messaging solutions, Herit Corporation from Korea enabling secure access to carrier’s network resources by third-party IP-based service providers, WiderThan.com showcasing its coloring solution, which is the world’s first commercial, fully personalized ringback tone solution and service.
