CHENNAI: IT major HP is getting aggressive in the wireless space, with its first launch of a slew of mobility products for 2005. In its drive to create easy to use mobile devices, HP announced the launch of its new Pavilion dv4000 Notebook PC series and the MP and VP range of digital projectors.

Addressing a group of journalists from across Asia Pacific, HP Imaging and Personal Systems Group, APJ consumer products and mobile business VP See Chin-Teik said, "We are uniquely positioned in the mobility market with expertise across the entire mobility spectrum from devices to servers, software, infrastructure and services. HP's leadership position in the mobile technology is based on deploying technology to create superior mobile experiences."

The notebooks launched today also demonstrate that HP is breaching the price performance barrier to tap the opportunities from emerging notebook markets like India. Currently, the company has a leadership position in the global notebook PC market with 15.6 percent market share. The new launches are expected to further strengthen the company's notebook portfolio.

The dv4000, it claims is built to enhance the consumers' digital experience and is powered by a powerful configuration aimed at the road warriors. The dv series features a 15.4" widescreen with BrightView display technology that doubles as DVD player due to enhanced display and sound. With a utility called QuickPlay and an integrated remote control a DVD or music CD can be played in 15 seconds without the need for standard boot up.

Estimated retail prices in Asia Pacific for HP Pavilion dv4000 Notebook PC Series are expected to start at US$1099 and will vary based on the required configuration.

Meanwhile, on the digital projector space the company is aggressively positioning itself as the key market player. The launch of the new digital projectors with wireless functionality is aimed at the burgeoning SOHO segment and for professionals who need to create instant boardroom presentations. These digital projectors weight just about 1.6 kgs and images can be directly beamed on the screen without a PC.

According to industry analysts, the latest mobility products from HP will help it drive growth and volume in the notebook and digital projector space.
