Aadhaar is an important identity and address proof documents across the nation. It is a 12-Digit ID from UIDAI. Aadhaar card comes in handy in many important tasks. Therefore, it is very important to update the correct details. The details can change for whatsoever reasons. One of the regularly changing property is the address. An address changes when there is a rental house or due to job transfer.

In such a situation, you should update your address in Aadhaar. You can update the address both online and offline. You do not need to provide any valid address proof to update the address in the Aadhaar card. Recently, UIDAI has tweeted in this regard.

In all other cases too, one must always keep it up-to-date. A user can either update the Aadhaar Card by visiting the Aadhaar Enrolment Center (Aadhaar Seva Kendra) or the website.

The UIDAI listed as many as 32 documents that it accepts as proof of identity; 45 as proof of address; and 15 as documents as proof of birth. You can use any of these documents to update the information.

Very recently, the UIDIA has also started charging a fee from Indians. Whether you update one field or many, charges for the Aadhaar Update will be Rs 100 (if you are also updating biometrics) and Rs 50 (if only demographics details are being updated), said UIDAI in a tweet.

Changes that you can make without documents

You can make some changes in Aadhar without any documents for verification whatsoever. For example, a mobile number, photo on the Aadhaar card can be changed without any document. Also, biometrics, gender, and email ID can also be updated without changing details.

Users can also book an appointment at the Aadhaar Seva Kendra to avail services such as Aadhaar enrolment, updating name, address, gender, mobile number, email ID, date of birth, or biometrics. Currently, you can only make appointments for some Seva Kendras. Further, UIDAI has placed restrictions on the number of times you can make changes. So. you need to make these changes very carefully.

Steps to Update You Aadhaar Card

In order to enroll for new Aadhaar or update the existing your or your family members Aadhaar, you have to visit an Aadhaar Enrolment Center.

1. Locate the nearest Aadhaar Enrolment Centre here.

2. If you are visiting the Seva Kendra to update your name, address, gender, and/or date of birth, then don't forget to carry the original documents with the correct details. However, to update your mobile number and/or email ID you are not required to provide any documents.

3. Before you go ahead with the updation, ensure that your mobile number is registered in UIDAI records. If not, you will have to register that first.

4. Go to the center and give your documents to change.

5. Pay the fee; and wait for 90 days.

You can, though, change your address online on the UIDAI Website directly.
