BANGALORE, INDIA: The world has changed. Now, people cannot think of a life without social networking sites. They need social media for anything and everything. Younger generation lives, chats, sleeps and dreams social media.

The social media has gone a long way forward that if one wants to tell something to friends, he/she goes to the virtual world, rather tell 'in the face'. He/she logs in to Facebook, for instance, post views and updates the status. The friends then come in and post their comments.

And their purpose? Just for fun.

Simply put, the pace with which the social sites are growing is just stupendous. As somebody quipped, Facebook — the numero uno social site in the world — will be declared a country after some 25 years.

Here is where www.grupur.com differs. Acronym for 'group on a purpose', grupur — developed by city-based IT startup Conwerge Web Services — is a unique online tool that helps people come together to complete a specific task.

As its CEO, K. Rajakumar, puts, “Grupur provides a general purpose group transaction platform, where we want to facilitate what we call a complex group transaction.”

If you look at the virtual world, there are umpteen number of groups. Some are built with a specific purpose, while some are just fun. However, grupur is built with a social goal in mind that a group of people is formed with an objective. Once the objective is achieved, the group is dispersed.

How it works

Each grupur goes through a series of phases that is designed to complete the required task in a timely manner. Invitations from grupur.com are sent only when a friend/colleague/relative submits your name and email in the invitation page, because he/she felt that you could benefit from/contribute to that particular grupur.

The invitation mail contains a URL that is specific to you and to the grupur to which you are invited. Clicking on that URL takes you to the landing page that is specific to that grupur, after you complete the authentication using one of your existing user IDs and passwords.

“On other social media like Facebook, if somebody joins your network, he/she gets in touch with you on a regular basis. One can share photos with friends and they can post comments and views. However, on grupur, a group comes together for a purpose. They might not know each other. The group works towards a purpose. Once the task is achieved, the group is dispersed.”

So, it is a temporary platform to mobilize people for a specific purpose. One can create own personal account on grupur or can login with his/her gmail or Facebook ID. He/she can upload information on this platform.

“If, for instance, if you want to clean the road in a particular area in Bangalore, you mobilize people by saying that you will carry out the project only if there are 20 people. Then, a group is formed for this short-term objective.”

Conwerge has some customers for its flagship product in the real estate sector. “We are providing an online tool for our customers to make their business more easy and convenient. We are closely working with some builders that they post adverts on our platform,” Rajakumar said.
