NEW DELHI: US-based $24 billion Honeywell International has aggressive plans to increase its presence in the Indian market and especially in the software segment. Among the expansion plans include growth through acquisitions and increasing the manpower from the 400 professionals to 1,000 by the end of this year. The Group has a wholly-owned software subsidiary in Bangalore, Honeywell India Software Operations (HISO). The expansion seeks to make HISO the largest software development center in the Asia-Pacific region. Company officials did not divulge financial details of the expansion plan but indicated that the major investment would be in the area of manpower recruitment. "We do not view India as just a market but also a center of technical excellence," said Michael R. Bonsignore, Chairman and CEO of Honeywell.

The major activity of HISO is to cater to the Group’s in-house needs of software requirements for the entire range of product portfolio. As such, Bonsignore also hinted at the possibility of setting up an R&D center in India soon. Other R&D centers of the Group are located at Singapore, Czech Republic and the US.

HISO was set up in 1994 as a software development center and has achieved SEI-level 5. The company has a turnover of $15 million and contributes about 15 per cent of the Group’s total turnover.
