The scientists at Tokyo University's Information and Robot Technology (IRT) Research Initiative have developed a robot that do mopping up, laundry works and even cleaning the kitchen.

And when you get up in the morning, the ‘sensible maid’ will be there with your morning coffee too!

The ‘Assistant Robot’ project of the Tokyo University was also assisted by Japanese companies including Toyota Corp, Sega, Panasonic and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, says a report.

The robotic housemaid from Japan can ‘see’ three-dimensional objects with its bifocal eyes and locate them even if they are placed under chairs or tables.

It can also recognize when a job has not been completed properly and move ahead to complete it, the report said.

"This is the first launch of a robot that will be able to help with household chores in an era of aging population. We can show people we can do it,” Mpelembe Network quoted Isao Shimoyama, head of the IRT research center at Tokyo University as saying.

The robot maid weighing 130 kilograms is 1.5 metres tall and is an expert in washing clothes. It can take your dirty clothes and linen, put it in the washing machine, push the buttons to wash, rinse and spin dry clothes.

Eager to buy one? Sorry, you will have to wait for another decade or two before it reaches the open market, said its developers.
