While most of the laptops have been designed with the European or Western climatic condition in mind, this series, developed under the ‘Design for India’ program, has taken into consideration the Indian condition, where ambient temperatures are higher, said HCL.

“With the trend of computing devices moving towards notebooks, we have realized that there is a need for notebooks that are designed to meet the varied requirements and mode of the Indian market,” said Rajendra Kumar, executive vice president, frontline division, HCL Infosystems.

He said one of the key parameters in the Indian context is the thermals and temperature difference between the left and the right palm rest surface of the notebook.

And the new series has a lower temperature difference across the surface. Leaptop Series 39 has thermals that are within 6 degree centigrade, he pointed out.

The new series comes with a 14.1" wide screen and is powered by Intel’s Centrino and Centrino2 processor technology, and has a battery back up of more than four hours. HCL said the new series has taken into consideration the power situation in the country and the orientation towards the ‘Green’ initiatives too.

Optimized to reduce power consumption, Leaptop Series 39 is compliant to the Energy Star 4.0 Category A certification and consumes less than 1.7 W energy in sleep mode and 1W in stand-by mode.
