HCL bags Rs.278 cr contract from Tamil Nadu

NEW DELHI, INDIA: The Tamil Nadu government has chosen HCL Infosystems for free distribution of laptops to students of government and state aided educational institutions across the state.

The hardware company has been given a contract for Rs 278 crore from the Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu (ELCOT). In the first phase, HCL is required to supply two lakh laptops out of total nine lakh.

"We are confident that such initiatives will boost PC penetration and democratize access to technology by students," HCL Infosystems Executive Vice President APS Bedi was quoted by PTI.
