BANGALORE, INDIA: Hundreds of Google Talk and Gmail Chat users in India and elsewhere were unable to use the chat feature on Thursday noon following an outage.
The news went viral later in the day when affected users started voicing their anguish on social networking platforms.
Later on Thursday, Google issued a statement confirming the downtime. Google is also keeping the users informed through various social networking sites.
The Google statement has confirmed that majority of Google Talk users are affected.
The statement further read : "The affected users are able to access Google Talk, but are seeing error messages and/or other unexpected behavior. We will provide an update by 7/26/12 5:20 PM detailing when we expect to resolve the problem. Please note that this resolution time is an estimate and may change."
Earlier, Google had said "We're investigating reports of an issue with Google Talk. We will provide more information shortly."
Users around the world have been facing problems with Google Talk. At 5:20 PM IST, Google posted the following update:
We are continuing to investigate this issue. We will provide an update by 7/26/12 6:20 PM detailing when we expect to resolve the problem.
