Greenpeace bats for Green Fund

NEW DELHI, INDIA: As energy consumption and fossil fuel price are soaring high, Greenpeace believes that regulatory framework and Green Fund have become a compelling need in the country.

Speaking at 'Decarbonising Economy', the event organised by CyberMedia and Greenpeace, Samit Aich, ED, Greenpeace India, said that in view of significant demand for renewable energy, there is a need to categorise it under national goals. ''India should build Green Fund to facilitate R&D,'' he stressed.

Aich also said that the country should work towards removing barriers in implementation of renewable energy solutions. ''Since we already have expertise, the country needs mechanism as well as investments to develop technologies,'' he added.

V Subramaniam, secretary general of the Indian Wind Energy Association, unveiled version 5 of the Cool IT Leaderboard. The study highlights the absence of sectoral leadership to drive renewable energy deployment. 

The Cool IT Leaderboard tracks the progress of IT firms towards achievement of the economy-wide green house gas (GHG) emission reduction of 15 per cent by 2020.

The report compares IT companies on their efforts to check climate change. Technology majors such as Google, Cisco, Ericsson, Fujitsu, Vodafone and Alcatel-Lucent are the top five companies in the climate solutions, energy impact and political advocacy ranking.
