NEW DELHI: In order to create awareness among users regarding cyber threat, the Department of Electronics and Information and Technology (DeitY) will launch an Internet safety campaign in collaboration with Google and the Computer Emergency Response Team-India. The government's idea crowdsourcing platform, MyGov (online portal under DeitY) had received over 650 ideas on the subject in a roundtable discussion in this regard.

Cybercrime is on the rise and citizens need to be educated on how to safeguard their online space. Thie campaign is a nationwide initiative to raise awareness among the youth as well as the key policymakers on Internet safety issues. As part of the Internet Safety Campaign initiated by MyGov, DeitY additional secretary Tapan Ray suggested a year round programme that would include roundtables, workshops, Security Cafes, and contests for young adults, policymakers and NGOs.

MyGov, in collaboration with all stakeholders, will soon issue awareness guidelines on various safety measures to be followed by government officials, schools, guardians and other vulnerable sections.
