Govt might slash 2G spectrum prices by 30 p.c.

BANGALORE, INDIA: The reserve price of CDMA spectrum may go down by up to 50 per cent and that of the unsold 2G spectrum, in 1800 MHz band, by 30 per cent during the second round of auction, as per a PTI report.

The Indian Government may take a call today on the pricing of both the spectrum, while the auction is slated to begin on March 11, 2013.

The cabinet might also consider the offer of spectrum in 900 MHz and 800 MHz bands for CDMA-operators, the report adds.

The telecom service providers who lost 2G licence, when the Supreme Court of India cancelled it early last year, can continue operations till 4 February, 2013.

"About 70% of the spectrum went unsold in the November auction that raised Rs 9,407 crore against government's expectation of Rs 28,000 crore," the report adds.
