Govt. to roll out e-literacy pilot project

Government is in plans to roll out the e-literacy pilot project in 100 locations across the country. It has also decided to roll out electronic delivery system for all citizen services in 50 districts.

The agenda for the next three months was decided in a recent meeting between IT Minister Kapil Sibal and Kruparani Killi, Minister of State-IT.

The launch of the e-literacy pilot project was one of the key point in the agenda. Under the project, three lakh citizens would be e-literate in two years and the project will be facilitated through IGNOU study centres.

"In this regard, the Department should consult Human Resource Development Ministry and dovetail the e-literacy initiative with the Adult Literacy Mission," as per the presentation by Department officials.

The government aims to make at least one person in every family e-literate by 2020, under the National Policy on Information Technology 2012.

"It was decided that, e-districts project will be launched in a minimum of 50 districts by March 2013 in various states," said the Department Officials.
