BANGALORE: gotoBavaria, a state agency for media and information technologies
headquartered in Bavaria, Germany, has inaugurated its India liaison office in
Bangalore. gotoBavaria is the marketing and inward investment agency for the
media and communication industries.
Bangalore is the second destination after Palo Alto in US of gotoBavaria outside
Germany. The Indian operations are likely to begin in mid January.
The state agency will focus on finding business partners and venture capital for
Indian companies interested to set up shop in Bavaria.
Speaking during the inauguration, state minister Erwin Huber, head of the
Bavarian state chancellery and minister for the media and IT industries, said,
"We see that more and more Indian companies will enter European markets and
that it is an honor to welcome investments to Bavaria from a country that is
making rapid strides in this highly competitive field." He added that this
could be a win win situation for both the countries and they looked forward to a
relationship that would stand strong in the global scenario.
Speaking on the choice of Bangalore to set up its Indian operations, Peter
Friess, CEO, gotoBavaria, said, "We spent a long time deciding on where to
take the first step to set up our operations and we found that Bangalore and
Munich are quite similar, and are top locations for research and development of
information technologies."
He further added that gotoBavaria's presence in India would bridge Bavaria and
India in IT and provide support to all Indian companies interested in setting
shop in Bavaria, help them find real estates and reach out to the European
markets.
The key focus areas of the state agency would be on the areas of e-learning,
mobile computing, e-governance, MP3 and media & communication.
