Google updates Currents with search technology

BANGALORE, INDIA: Search engine giant Google has announced that it has revamped its Currents, which allows users to discover, share and read news outlets, blogs and online magazines.

Google Currents, a social magazine app for tablets computers was released in December 2011 and presently available for Android and iOS devices.

The updated Currents make it easier for users to scan through their favourite categories and specific editions with the swipe of a finger, said Google.

"We're revamping Currents to make it even easier to scan through all your favorite categories and specific editions with just the swipe of a finger, "said Mussie Shore, Group Product Manager at Google.

Shore further added, "We're using some of the technology behind Search to bring breaking stories on those celebrity scandals, stock market updates, the next technology frontier and more."

Google claims that it has updated its Current app to enable its users to scan news, blog posts according to categories. "We're now grouping editions into categories to help you keep track of your existing subscriptions and discover new ones," added Shore.

The revamp Currents allow users to check editions related to their interests through categories like News, Entertainment, Technology, Sports, Lifestyle and more.

All of your content will be grouped in these categories, accessible from a sidebar, and you can organize your editions in each category with favorites on top, said Shore.

With the recent update, Google claims, it has also enabled easy browsing experience for its users. "We've also made it easy to quickly browse through top articles from all your favorite editions in a category-just swipe horizontally."

For example, if you subscribe to more than a dozen News editions, you can quickly swipe through the entire category and dive into editions with articles of interest, says Google.

Along with above-mentioned update, Google Currents also allows users scan through editions and scan through breaking stories.

According to Google, the updated app is now available for download on Google Play and coming soon to iOS.
