According to the survey report, nearly 25 per cent of survey respondents in the US, where the survey was conducted, picked Google Inc as the most desired employer, while Apple came second, which is far behind with less than 15 per cent respondents preferring the iPhone maker as their employer.

The Walt Disney Company came third and the U.S. Department of State is at number 4 position while online retailer Amazon got the fifth rank.

Among the companies that found a place in the top 50 chart are Microsoft (7), Sony (17), Electronic Arts (22), Yahoo! (23), Goldman Sachs (26), General Electric (29), IBM (30), J.P. Morgan (31), McKinsey & Company (33), Deloitte (46), Intel (50).

This comes as no surprise as young professionals search for financially strong employers and rank job security and stability as their second most important career goal, said the survey.

Kortney Kutsop, Universum’s Employer Branding Specialist, said companies that have appealing consumer brands generally also succeed in being perceived as attractive employers.

“People nowadays love to work for companies that produce their favorite products and services. Also, market success is an important factor: the company needs to be generally seen as innovative and best-in-class in whatever they do — that’s the winning formula,” he said.

Universum asked 10,306 young professionals - defined as college graduates with one to eight years of work experience — to pick as many as five ideal employers out of a list of 150.

Respondents also could write in companies not on the list. The top write-in was Facebook, followed by the Department of Homeland Security and the United Nations, the report added.
