Through the doodle, Google stands to support the anti-gay legislation which was passed last year in the country and was entitled to be enforced during the winter Olympic Games.

The Google doodle features silhouettes of athletes above every letter and the colours are so that they represent the rainbow gay-pride flag. The search giant has also quoted the Olympic Charter which says, "The practice of sport is a human right. Every individual must have the possibility of practicing sport, without discrimination of any kind and in the Olympic spirit, which requires mutual understanding with a spirit of friendship, solidarity and fair play."

Here, Google seems to highlighting the point of discrimination in sports and has publically given their opinion on the law. Russia has already been taken down by many for passing the anti-gay rights law.
