GOI to roll out Aadhaar-based cash transfer from Jan 1st

BANGALORE, INDIA: The executive committee on the Aadhaar-based direct cash transfer system, in the presence of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has decided to roll out the direct cash transfer system from 2013.

As per the decisions taken in the meeting, all the departments that are engaged in transferring benefits to individual beneficiaries will go online with their respective schemes from January 1st, 2013. The roll out plan will be prepared in which 51 districts will go online from January with states going online from 1st April in installments.

The meeting that was attended by the Secretaries and representatives of the Departments of Financial Services, UIDAI (Aadhaar), IT, Planning Commission, Expenditure, Posts, and various other departments will send the list of schemes, road-maps, and timelines to the Planning Commission and PMO by 20th November.

In order to facilitate Aadhaar enabled Direct Cash Transfers and help individual Ministries, the UIDAI will set up a dedicated cell of technical experts in UIDAI. Department of Financial Services will go for universal Financial Inclusion through individual Bank Accounts.

With the help of state governments, DeITy and NIC, departments will work towards the digitisation of their databases.
