BANGALORE, INDIA: GoCoop, an e-commerce portal established with the pretext of providing a platform to all the weavers and artisans in the rural areas in India, has started the ‘Swadeshi Movement' which empowers the artisans and weavers across the country by helping them sell their products online directly to the buyers.

GoCoop currently supports over 50,000 weavers through 150 Weaver and Artisan co-operatives selling over 9000 products.

Shiva Devi Reddy, CEO & founder, GoCoop.com said: "India is officially estimated to have over 7 million artisans and we are gradually seeing a decline not only in the livelihoods but also in our traditional arts and crafts in the process. The key challenge faced today by our weavers and artisans is the inadequate demand and unfair pricing for their produce while the traders or middle men and retailers have the major share in the margins. There is an urgent need to create better market access for our artisans and weavers and make the markets more equitable to the producers. Hence, to address this issue GoCoop has signed up with co-operative societies that help weavers and artisans sell their products online directly to consumers and buyers."

GoCoop aims at encouraging the youth and online shopaholics to adopt fabrics handspun, handwoven & handcrafted in India, which will by itself mark the beginning of the new textile revolution.
