The average sales of chips in September, October and November 2009 are expected to be worth $22.5 billion, compared to the sales of $21.7 billion in October 2009. This would mean an increase by 7.7 per cent year-on-year, as against the 3-month average for November 2008.

However, the actual chip sales in November 2009 probably went up by 26 per cent compared with November 2008, says Bruce Diesen, a senior analyst and strategist Carnegie ASA. This increase, according to Bruce Diesen, represents a significant turnaround in the annual performance. It also shows that the market has not only recovered to a great extent but is also beginning to be compared with the collapsing market that took place one year ago.

To support his stand, Bruce Diesen cited a broad-based strength in the business of personal computers, handsets, consumer electronics, and automotive.

Carnegie ASA, which has changed its full-year predictions, now says that the chip sales in 2009 will drop by 10 per cent (12 per cent previously) in terms of dollar, and that the chip sales will increase by 13 per cent (11 per cent previously) in 2010.
