Gemtek, Sequans power BSNL's mobile WiMAX

TAIPEI, TAIWAN: Gemtek, a maker of broadband wireless devices, developed a new mobile WiMAX CPE, based on Sequans’ WiMAX chip, that will be deployed on Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited’s (BSNL) WiMAX network in India.

The company claims that once fully deployed, BSNL’s WiMAX network will be the largest in the world, comprising 7000 base stations across India.

Gemtek’s new device, the WIXS-181 outdoor CPE, delivers high speed Internet access, operates at 2.5 GHz.

The new Gemtek CPE will be on display at WiMAX Taipei 2010, June 1-5, at the Taipei World Trade Center, Taiwan in Gemtek’s booth, A523, and Sequans’ booth, A418A.

“Gemtek’s new CPE is a powerful solution that will eventually serve millions in India with Mobile WiMAX service,” said Georges Karam, CEO, Sequans. “Our technology contributes to the high performance of the device and the efficiency of the entire BSNL network, and we are pleased to collaborate with Gemtek on this important project.”
