This certification would enable airports to protect travellers with advanced high-definition 3-D imaging (HD3-D) baggage screening technology, formerly only available in healthcare settings, combined with explosive detection.

CTX 9800 would break new grounds with its innovative data acquisition system called Clarity -- along with GE healthcare’s pioneering 3D imaging technology and GE Security’s industry-leading automated explosives detection technology.

Clarity’s unprecedented HD3-D imaging would deliver a 360°, finely-detailed view of baggage contents, providing operators an increased ability to identify threats and lower operational costs. The CTX 9800 would also provide users the ability to adapt new threat definitions in future.

Dennis Cooke, Homeland Protection business, GE Security, said: "The CTX 9800 utilizes advanced imaging technology originally developed for healthcare applications and customizes it for security applications. Our unique Clarity technology enables checked luggage to be scanned by an EDS system at unprecedented speeds with the highest resolution in the industry. The CTX 9800 delivers 3D volumetric images with exceptional detail that can lead to more effective identification of potential threats and increased operator efficiency."

The CTX 9800 represents a significant leap forward by improving on the throughput of the current EDS generation with a path toward further advancements. It is the second in a progressive series of enhancements for GE’s CTX 9000 DSiTM EDS product line. This offers customers the ability to protect their baggage screening infrastructure investments by ensuring a continual upgrade path to the latest EDS technologies through a sequence of regularly-scheduled new product releases.  Both the CTX 9000 and CTX 9400 DSiTM can be upgraded to the CTX 9800.
