GDA announces Android mobile app design competition

NEW DELHI, INDIA: The 'First All-India Android Mobile App Design Competition' being organized by Global Discovery Academy (GDA), a chain of K-12 schools for students in the age group of 10-13 years has received a tremendous response from across the country.

Students from schools across India have registered in the competition where they are developing a mobile phone application that will serve a social cause. The given areas are Environment, Education, Health and Nutrition, Poverty & Civic facilities.

The competition is now in its second stage wherein the finalists from the first round are being given training on the following levels - Basic, Intermediate/Advanced and Personalized help in implementing apps through Sykpe+ recorded video tutorials.

The competition is designed to help students explore their strengths and push it to the next level with due guidance and support. While conceptualizing their ideas the students will look deeper in the area of concern which will help them enhance their awareness towards social needs and their own responsibilities towards the same.

GDA received astonishing 200 registrations from all over the country. Vipul Redey, chief product officer, GDA said, "The response has been fabulous, as on request from students we extended the registration deadline by 3 days and even after that we continued to receive requests for further extension of the date. We received close to 200 registrations for the first round and 134 final submissions which is a highly positive feedback."

Students are developing apps on the lines of Women Safety, Cleanliness & Hygiene, Medical facilities etc. The maximum number of participation has been registered from Tamil Nadu region.

For round 3, the selected finalists will get the opportunity to present the app on the final day of the event i.e. 21st October 2013 in New Delhi. Honored panel of judges will be evaluating the respective entries based on creativity, effectiveness of the app, and ease of use.
