Future belongs to India, says Swiss Minister

CHANDIGARH: Bilateral trade and cooperation between India and Switzerland, and particularly the Canton of Jura, has the potential to grow manifold in view of certain common inherent strengths, said

H E Jean-François Roth, Hon'ble Minister, Jura Canton, Switzerland, while addressing the members of the CII at the Session on Trade & Investment Opportunities with Jura Canton, Switzerland.

Impressed by the buoyancy of the Indian economy, he said, "Knowing the way India is expanding, the future belongs to India."

Leading a high profile 17 member business delegation to India comprising business leaders representing diverse sectors such as Watch Industry, Information Technology, Medicine, Manufacturing Sector, H E Roth expressed a very strong desire to see much greater bilateral trade between both the countries.

Recalling the trade relations between the two countries, Roth observed that tapping into important emerging markets like India is a key part of their international strategy

While introducing the advantages, Jura Canton can offer to Indian investors, Xavier Jourdain, Trade and Investment Consultant, Jura Canton said, " Jura Canton being at the gate of the TriRhena's Region, is the gateway to Germany - France - Switzerland and enjoys a very important location strategically.

Highlighting the robust economy of Jura Carton, Xavier Jourdain said, "The economy is based on a rich mix of robust, innovating and diversification oriented enterprises in the industry and services sectors and the country continues to broaden its economic base with exciting new investments."

In his presentation on trade and investment opportunities in North India, Pratap Aggarwal, chairman, CII Chandigarh Council, said, "Bilateral trade between India and Switzerland has been growing steadily with a wide range of items being traded between the two countries. Switzerland ranks 10th in the list of countries investing in India with a consolidated investment amounting to USD 575.74 million since 1991."

Talking about the potential areas for joint ventures between the two countries, he stated that metal-processing, building material, machines tools, electrotechnics and other industrial fields and Services are the key sectors which stand immense scope for joint collaboration."
