Freescale opens embedded green design contest

MUMBAI, INDIA: Elevating the environmental potential of embedded systems design, Freescale Semiconductor announced that it is accepting entries for the company’s green design contest.

The challenge is for engineering students and professional developers to ‘go green’ using a range of advanced Freescale technologies to build environmentally beneficial embedded systems.  Contestants will compete for cash prizes up to $61,000 and high-profile recognition at the Freescale Technology Forum (FTF) Design Challenge India, held November 13-14. 

“Energy management and sustainability are becoming major considerations in virtually every purchase decision: consumer or corporate,” said Ganesh Guruswamy, country manager & director, Freescale Semiconductor India. “We encourage the FTF Design Challenge participants to experiment and test the boundaries by designing energy efficient products.”

Interested contestants should review contest guidelines and register on Freescale’s Design Challenge website.  Upon selection, participates will receive the hardware and software development tools to begin constructing their designs. Final FTF India Design Challenge papers will be due June 20, 2008.  Submissions will be judged by embedded systems experts on several criteria including creativity, efficiency, complexity, the number of Freescale devices used, and the overall innovation to improve the environment.

Freescale is hosting Design Challenges in the Americas, Japan, Europe, China and India to reward the most inventive green embedded designs with cash prizes and global recognition. First place regional winners will receive $10,000 USD, in addition to being invited to participate in the Grand FTF Design Challenge. Second place winners receive $5,000 and third place $2,000.
