This three-day event brings together Linux developers from India and abroad and features discussions and sessions on the latest technologies, ranging from Kernel-programming and embedded systems to desktop environments and localisation to Databases and web applications.

For the first time, this year’s keynote speaker was from India - Suparna Bhattacharya, a developer at the Linux Technology Center at IBM software lab in India. She spoke on Linux and the art of minimalist development.

“Linux is maturing faster than any other OS in history. But its rate of change its diversity are causing conflicting design goals. It is becoming difficult to build simple and minimalist solutions on the Linux kernel to address the needs of diverse environments.”

She added that conventional approaches are not good enough to solve these problems. “There are three stages of simplication to be taken to tackle diversity. This involves moving from Modularity to minimalism (where components are sized down to the essential features) and then ephemeralization, which would involve doing more kernel enhancements with less.
