Force bets on Linux, eyes India

BANGALORE: Solectron company, Force Computers, is preparing ground for a Linux competency center in India. Aiming to embed Linux applications in the processors, Force India, will build up a Linux team in its design center at Bangalore. A significant amount of investment is earmarked for the competency center.



"It doesn’t matter how big the team is going to be or how big it is poised to be, what is important is that Linux is going to be incorporated in processors. Force India will cater to the Linux demand of Force, globally. With more and more initiatives for open standards, Force is adapting open standard systems in its products," said, Force Computers India, General Manager-Engineering, TK Jithendran.



As part of its global `Running with Force’ partnership program, Force Computers will soon be partnering with Indian companies to outsource software solutions for Compact PCI and server related works. Although the company is in talks with potential partners, no firm accordance has been stuck yet, informed Jithendran.



The design center in India is the second largest of the five design centers of Force, the largest located in Munich, Germany. The other centers are located in the US, France and Scotland. Equipped with about 90 engineers, the India design center contributes to over 40 percent of the products rolled out of Force.



"India is looked upon as a major hub for designing in Force. This is primarily because of the quality design talent that is abundantly available with the required skill sets. Infrastructure and cost effective operations are plus points for the India design center," affirmed Jithendran.



The company has its manufacturing facilities in the US and Malaysia. It is primarily engaged in building and designing processor boards for telecom and datacom industry.
