On the IT implementations



Implementation of a web based sales force automation system has been put in

place. The company has more than 1200 sales people and collecting daily activity

report in hard copy was time consuming and inaccurate due to data entry mistake.

Hence, a web based application was deployed wherein sales force can enter their

daily activity at the end of day and information is available in timely fashion.

The second major initiative pertains to the implementation of Hospital

Management System (HMS). The company is setting up the hospitals at different

locations in India and, hence, there is a need for an application to meet

functional need of multi-speciality hospitals.

On the specific technology need



The company had an Oracle solution on Intel based servers and Unix platform

with Windows and Unix operating system, respectively. Due to growth of

operations, the response of the system was below mark and there was a response

time problem. An Linux based solution was deployed on Intel based platform with

achievement of 10-20 times faster response and high uptime.

On the challenges



We find planning and purchasing networking components quite challenging due

to short-term business target of the company and unforeseen growth of business

units.

On managing vendors



We have long-term relationship with various vendors. But at the same time we

are quite open for new vendors and partners, who can bring value addition to the

company. We believe in open competition and we do not put all eggs in same

basket. Generally we find support policies related to turn around time and

payment terms for extra work quite oppressive to organization.

On emerging technologies



Virtualization and Unified storage: Planning for our new business

application as they give easy manageability, maintenance, cost effective, better

utilization of resources and backup. Linux Enterprise version is quite robust

and gives higher performance at lower cost. We had already deployed Linux at our

hospitals for Oracle solutions and Linux for mail and proxy servers. .Net: The

platform gives better security, ease of application development and maintenance.

Our all-new web based applications are developed on .NET platform. eBusiness

Solutions: Company is under process of deploying new generation E-business

solutions like My SAP.
